Not Every Problem Needs a Lawyer. Some Just Need Someone Who’s Been There.

If your business is stuck, your career has stalled, or a decision is keeping you up at night — what you probably need is a straight conversation with someone who has actually run organizations, navigated hard calls, made some solid decisions as well as a few mistakes and navigated the results to come out the other side.
Dr. Michael Ange has spent four decades doing exactly that. He has built companies, run global divisions, opened international markets, managed through crises, and made the kinds of decisions that don’t come with a manual. He is not a motivational speaker. He does not do vision boards. He will tell you what he sees, give you his honest read, and help you figure out what to do about it.
If that sounds useful, read on.
Who This Is For
Business Owners & Executives
You run a business where the decisions are yours and the consequences are real — whether that’s a maritime operation, a watersports business, a professional services firm, a startup finding its footing, or an established company navigating a transition. The industry matters less than the situation. Growth, a difficult decision, a risk that needs an honest outside assessment, a partnership that isn’t working — these challenges cross every sector. Dr. Ange has operated at every level from owner-operator to continental division CEO to global brand and standards management across the full spectrum of business operations — from retail and charter to manufacturing, distribution, and global standards development. He has seen what works and what doesn’t — and more importantly, he has seen what looks like it works until it doesn’t. He will give you a direct assessment rather than a polished presentation.
Professionals at a Crossroads
Your career has reached a decision point. A promotion that looks good on paper but feels wrong in your gut. A move to a larger organization that offers more money and less satisfaction. A lateral move that nobody around you understands but you can’t stop thinking about. The realization that the path you’re on is someone else’s definition of success. Work-life balance that has tipped so far in one direction that something important is being lost. You don’t need someone to validate whatever you’ve already decided — you need an honest outside perspective from someone who has made career decisions at every level, gotten some of them right, gotten some of them wrong, and learned the difference. That’s the conversation Open Paths Global is built to address.
Organizations Entering New Markets
Dr. Ange has a demonstrated record of taking international companies into North American markets and U.S. products into international markets. If your organization is expanding, restructuring, or repositioning, he brings direct executive experience — not theory.
What to Expect
Direct assessment. No sugarcoating. If there’s a problem, it gets named. If a plan has a flaw, it gets identified. If you’re headed in the wrong direction, you’ll hear that opinion before you get there rather than after.
This is not a therapeutic process. It is not about processing feelings or finding your authentic self. It is about examining your situation clearly, identifying your options honestly, and deciding on a course of action you can actually execute.
Engagements are structured around your specific situation — not a packaged program. A single strategy session, an ongoing advisory relationship, or anything in between depending on what the work requires.

A Note on Personal Coaching
Personal coaching through Open Paths Global is available for individuals who want substantive engagement — not encouragement. If you are looking for someone to validate your current path regardless of where it leads, this is not the right fit. If you want an honest outside perspective from someone with real-world experience in high-stakes environments, it might be exactly what you need.
Serious Injury Recovery & Military Transition

Dr. Ange speaks to these situations from direct personal experience — twice over.
Mike is a Gulf War veteran who returned home carrying Gulf War Illness — a condition the government denied existed for decades and in some quarters still does. There is no cure. He has managed it for thirty years while building everything described on this page. There are mornings the body does not cooperate and showing up is a deliberate decision rather than a default. He has made that decision every morning for three decades. He does not raise this for sympathy — he raises it because if you are sitting across from him telling him that recovery is hard or that showing up consistently feels impossible, he already knows. Saddling up is only half the battle — but it’s required before you can ride, and that’s the adventure.
The second is more recent. In 2023 he was thrown and trampled by a 1,200-pound thoroughbred, sustaining 18 broken bones — 10 thoracic vertebrae, 4 dislocated ribs, 2 simple rib fractures, a broken sternum, and a dislocated shoulder. He walked to the fence, used it reset his own shoulder, went inside, had a beer, took a shower, and told his wife they should probably go to the emergency room. His blood pressure bottomed to 35 over 10 in the VA ER. He never lost consciousness staying engaged with a concerted effort to run his own medical history and symptom checklist with the trauma team, keeping himself in the fight rather than simply surrendering the outcome to the people in scrubs. That engagement kept him conscious and fighting with some control over outcomes – plus he knew his wife who should not have been there at all, was standing near the bed terrified and watching. Less than 12 hours after walking into that ER he had been transferred to a class 1 trauma center and was in surgery — two titanium rods securing his spine from T2 to T9.
The morning after surgery, when the aide came in for a short supervised walk to the bathroom, he completed it without assistance, came back out, and as the aid tried to get him back into bed, he told him: “I will not lay in a bed recovering for weeks or months so buckle up, buttercup we’re going around the tower.” The large, genuinely good-natured aide followed along terrified he was about to lose his job — and they lapped the entire bed tower of a large hospital. He was home days ahead of schedule AND yes, much to the horror of his neuro docs he was back on horseback within 3 months.
He is not going to tell you recovery is easy or that transition is straightforward. He is going to tell you what it actually takes, help you assess where you honestly are, and work with you on a realistic path forward. Not everyone can just saddle up, we all have to fight in our own way but you absolutely do have to fight.
If you are coming back from serious injury or leaving military service and figuring out what comes next — this is a conversation worth having.
Engagements begin with a direct conversation to determine whether this is a good fit for both parties. No charge for that conversation. If it makes sense to proceed, we structure the engagement from there.
