Florida Rule 10.380 requires that all parties receive a written explanation of fees and potential costs prior to the commencement of mediation. This page provides the general framework for how fees are structured at Open Paths Global. Specific fees for each engagement are confirmed in writing in the mediation contract or consulting agreement prior to any paid service beginning. No paid mediation or consulting service is initiated without a signed agreement.
Mediation Fees
Basis of Charges
Mediation fees are based on time — preparation, the mediation session itself, and any post-session documentation. Fees and potential costs are based on the nature and complexity of the matter and are disclosed in writing prior to the commencement of mediation.
A straightforward commercial dispute between two local parties requires less preparation and session time than a technically complex maritime matter involving multiple parties, expert summaries, or international participants. Fees reflect that reality. The specific hourly rate and estimated total cost for your matter will be confirmed in your mediation contract before any work begins.
General Fee Framework
Hourly rates for mediation services at Open Paths Global generally range from $150 to $350 per hour depending on the complexity of the matter, preparation required, number of parties, and whether the matter involves technical, maritime, or international dimensions. The applicable rate for your specific matter will be stated in your mediation contract.
What Is Included
- Pre-mediation preparation including review of submitted summaries and materials
- The mediation session itself
- Post-session documentation if agreement is reached
- Standard administrative costs
Potential Additional Costs
- Travel outside the North Central Florida area — mileage and reasonable travel expenses at cost
- Secure videoconference platform fees, if applicable
- Extended preparation for technically complex matters involving substantial documentation
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation with less than 72 hours notice may result in a cancellation fee as specified in your mediation contract. Same-day cancellation or no-show may be charged at the reserved session rate, subject to a minimum charge of two hours, as specified in the mediation contract. Parties are responsible for mediation fees unless otherwise specified in the mediation contract.
Allocation Between Parties
Unless the parties agree otherwise and so specify in the mediation contract, mediation fees are shared equally between the parties and are payable at the estimated total before a session begins. Alternative allocation arrangements may be agreed upon and will be stated in the mediation contract. Sessions that conclude more quickly, but exceed the two-hour minimum, will receive a refund of any unused prepaid fees. Sessions that run longer than projected, will have balances charged to the parties as agreed.
Reduced Fee and Pro Bono Availability
Open Paths Global is committed to making mediation accessible. Reduced fee arrangements are available in appropriate circumstances and are addressed on a case by case basis. Parties experiencing genuine financial hardship are encouraged to raise this in the initial intake conversation.
Consulting & Coaching Fees
Consulting and coaching services are entirely separate from mediation services and are governed by a separate consulting or coaching agreement. No consulting or coaching service is initiated without a signed agreement. Prior consulting or coaching relationships, or educational interactions with Dr. Ange, may be disclosed to all parties and evaluated for any potential conflict or appearance of bias before acceptance of a mediation matter.
Consulting and coaching fees are determined based on the scope and nature of each engagement. Every engagement is different — in scope, duration, intensity, and what it actually requires. Fees are discussed and agreed upon in the initial consultation and confirmed in writing before work begins.
Engagement Options
Open Paths Global offers maximum flexibility in structuring consulting and coaching engagements:
- Single Session — a focused strategy or advisory conversation, billed at an agreed hourly rate with a stated minimum
- Monthly Retainer — scheduled sessions plus defined between-session access, billed monthly at an agreed rate
- On-Call Access — priority access for time-sensitive decisions, structured around your specific needs
- Project-Based Engagement — defined scope, defined deliverable, agreed total fee
- Extended Advisory Relationship — ongoing engagement structured around a minimum commitment period with terms agreed at outset
If none of these structures fit your situation, that conversation is worth having. The goal is an arrangement that works for both parties and gets the work done.
Initial Consultation
The initial conversation to determine fit is provided at no charge for both mediation and consulting inquiries.
Mediation and consulting/coaching services are independent of one another and are offered under separate agreements. Current coaching or consulting clients or students of Mike Ange may not engage Open Paths Global for mediation services, as this would compromise the mediator’s required neutrality. Prior consulting or coaching relationships, or educational interactions with Dr. Ange, may be disclosed to all parties and evaluated for any potential conflict or appearance of bias before acceptance of a mediation matter.
